Hawks limp into top spot in conference

By: Staff Reporter

The Chicago Blackhawks lost in a shootout 5-4 to the Phoenix Coyotes, with the Coyotes pushing their win streak to eight games and now are two points out of the top spot in the Western Conference. With the Hawks and Sharks having issues, watch out for the Coyotes with them streaking at the right time.

The common theme of the Blackhawks lately is to blow late leads, that is exactly what happened last night against the red hot Coyotes. The Blackhawks blew a two goal lead in the first as well as the third period. "It's embarrassing," Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith said. "There's really no other way to say it or talk about it."

Goaltending may not be the only issue going forward, the defense has squandered leads in four of their last five games. "We've got to play defense," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. If there is a silver lining to the game, the Hawks still have the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Hawks get their chance at redemption on Tuesday night, where they host the Coyotes at the Madhouse on Madison.
